Service For Peace Awarded Mark of Excellence from International Volunteer Programs Association
February 22, 2012Service For Peace is proud to announce its membership to the International Volunteer Programs Association (IVPA). This means our Global PeaceMakers and Alternative Breaks programs are accredited as meeting high standards of excellence in terms of volunteer experience, community impact, volunteer preparation and follow-up, program structure, and more.
IVPA is an association of non-governmental organizations involved in international volunteer work and internship exchanges. IVPA is an association of volunteer sending organizations but does not organize or run its own volunteer programs. It has highly selective membership standards to which organizations are expected to adhere.
What does this mean for our volunteers and Communities of Peace where we work? It means volunteers are guaranteed to have a truly transformational experience--one that is deeply meaningful and memorable, inexplicably fun, culturally rewarding, and safe. They will be taken care of and pushed to have the most powerful experience possible. For our Communities of Peace, it is a promise and a practice that they will be treated like equal partners, leaders in their field, and empowered agents of change. It means they are guaranteed to receive meaningful service from local and international volunteers, and are guaranteed to be transformed as individuals and as a community--not just by what they receive, but also by the service they provide.
One small step for SFP--one giant step for the international community!
